I recently participated in the InsideOut Management Coaching Seminar. I had two goals going into the session. The first was to refresh my knowledge of employee coaching and the second was to assess whether it was material that would benefit my organization.
The class exceeded my expectations on both counts in that it simplified a very complex performance thought process and provided tools to help encourage strong employee performance.
The basic premise of the class is that we all enter the work place with knowledge about how to perform our jobs. What impedes our performance is interference or doing what we already know. Top performers have the knowledge, faith (belief in their abilities), fire (passion for the job) and focus (the absence of interference) to get the job done. The class taught us how we, as leaders, can coach employees for optimal performance by eliminating interference so that they can focus on their goal and achieve their own breakthrough performance, which ultimately increases business results.
The founder of the class, Alan Fine, was a tennis coach who transferred his coaching skills to business performance. He took basic coaching principles and applied them to achieving organizational objectives. An added takeaway of the class for me was the video on tennis coaching which I have already applied to my golf game! That really excited me even though that wasn’t the best take away.
The reason I really liked the class was that it was fast-paced, interactive, had interesting videos, hands-on demonstrations and applicable tools to take back to the workplace. We practiced every concept presented and left feeling equipped to coach others. This is not something I’ve experienced in very many other one-day training sessions.
This class was energizing, inspiring and practical. It is definitely well worth the reasonable registration fee and a day away from the office.
