Department of Labor Training Grants

The Department of Labor announced the release of some new grant dollars that have been made available for Community Based Job Training Grants (CBJTG). There is approximately $125 million dollars available for these grants. The goal of these grant dollars is to develop and support training programs for high-demand and high growth industries. Grants are available for training programs that target unemployed, dislocated or incumbent workers that help develop and prepare them for a recognized credential, such as, occupational license, industry sponsored certification or educational degree. The goal of the program is for the training to result in employment. Therefore, training curriculum needs to match job opportunities that are available or will be available during the grant period.

Applicant Eligibility:

  • Community or technical college, nonprofit community college, tribal controlled college or university;
  • State community college system;
  • Career center that partners with local workforce investment board that specifies one or more technical, or community college, where training or education activities will take place;
  • Community college district;
  • Educationally underserved communities with no access to technical or community colleges.

New applicants are encouraged. Organizations who have never received a CBJTG will be awarded approximately $50 million of available funds. For consortium applicants who have three or more applicants may be eligible for up to $5 million. General grants will range from $1 million to $3 million.

Applications must be received by April 29, 2010. Questions can be referred to the Grants Management Specialist Division of Federal Assistance at 202-693-3538.
